I joined the INSPECTA (Inland Stored Program Exchange Centralised Telex Accounting) project at British Telecom as a hands-on Project Manager on recommendation from Hilary Dennis (previous manager at BT Old Street), to manage the system as the current permanent staff had been moved to new projects. The INSPECTA system runs on ICL 3900 system and produces billing data for Telex calls. I was responsible for day-to-day operational support and maintenance of the INSPECTA system, and also for the development and enhancement of the system, producing both system and program specifications, and writing and amending both COBOL and SCL programs as necessary. Strict adherence to BS5750 documentation standards was maintained for this project. The job involved liaison with the users at management level down.
