18:14pm: We stopped for a small snack once the engine was out. Then it was a case of get the new one in. Not as easy as we thought. We had to assemble all the missing parts first. replacing the exhaust manifold should hve been simple - but there were no manifold nuts from my engine to hand, so we had to take them off Peter's engine. Then there was the saga off the exhaust bracket. There is this bracket that holds the downpipe to the gearbox housing, and it was absent from the downpipe/turbo assembly we were using - it had come from a third car but the turbo had only done 4,000 miles. If you've got a Y10 Turbo, crawl under your car and seek out this bracket. Then tell me how you get it off the exhaust pipe - or even how Lancia got it there in the first place. It bolts round the pipe tightly but the only way to remove it is to twist it off as there is a flange at each end of the downpipe and the bracket won't go past them. This took a while as the bracket is not exactly thin gauge steel. Luckily by now, Peter's dad, Norbert had arrived. Aside from being an extra hand, he was somewhat less clueless than us in the mechanic states. As you can see, I have taken a breakette from work and Peter and Norbert are doing their stuff. We've got the engine in place and the engine mounting bolts are done up loosely while they try and get the suspension into place to bolt up. |
